Our Story

Lauren DeKowzan
I am proud to be a 5th-generation Colorado native. I was born and raised in the Front Range. Some of my fondest childhood memories were playing outdoors, digging in the soil, eating veggies from my grandma's garden, catching reptiles, and swimming in the creeks. My dad took my brother and me camping every summer. He was my first role model in stewardship of the earth. My dad taught us to leave the land better than we found it.
After high school, my adventurous spirit led me around the world, visiting and living in some of the most exotic places in the world. During my travels, I fell in love with photography and became a professional photographer. I was eventually called back to my roots in Colorado. In 2020, I developed an excitement for landscape design during the pandemic. Like many at that time, I needed to be outdoors as much as possible. I discovered digging in the soil and working with my body to be very grounding and therapeutic. I had a vision to recreate my front yard into a colorful wild garden, but I didn't know a lot about plants at that time. I became obsessed, researching plants and gardening every chance I had. I decided to dive in deeper and enrolled at Front Range Community College in the horticulture and landscape design programs. I received several scholarships along my way for my academic achievements. I graduated in 2024 with summa cum laude honors and an AAS in horticulture and a landscape design certificate.
My background as a photographer has trained my eye to be keenly aware of composition, balance, and beauty in a landscape. I am constantly studying the natural world, drawing my inspiration and solutions from nature. My commitment to excellence has me frequently attending continuing education opportunities to continue to learn and grow as a horticulturist, designer, business owner, and person. I aspire to create beautiful landscapes that improve the health and function of our urban ecosystems while providing a sanctuary for rejuvenation.
